GUIDE DOGS

Guide dogs are probably the most well known and familiar of all the service dogs. Guide Dogs are the eyes that allow a visually impared individual the freedom and mobility to live normal lives. Guide dog training is vigourous and begins very early in the dogs life and takes two to three years to complete. For more information on guide dogs, visit the Southeastern Guide Dogs web site on our links page.

Service Dogs

Service dogs are dogs that are trained to perform tasks such as opening doors, turning on lights, picking up objects, and other such tasks, depending on the person's impairment. These types of dogs usually possess an extensive vocabulary because the mission they perform is usually so varied. The Service Dog can do the simple task of picking up keys, to more complex tasks of going into another room to retrieve a specified object for his charge
